
Introduction
The Algerian Paper of the Year Award aims at bringing together the Algerian scientific community with the goal to encourage excellence in scientific research. The award aims at promoting a culture of excellence in scientific research and academic publishing in Algeria, with a particular focus on supporting young Algerian researchers and contributing to strengthening academic cooperation amongst Algerian scientists worldwide.
The competition was launched in 2013 by a group of academics led by Professor Oussama Metatla and Professor Youcef Mehellou and continued for five editions, the last of which was in 2017. This competition is now relaunched by the International Network of Algerian Scientists INAS.
Conditions of participation
Submitted papers must meet the following conditions:
- Have been published in scientific journals or conference proceedings during the preceding year; i.e., between January 1st and December 31st, 2024.
- The published work was conducted at an Algerian university or research centre
- Published work which involves collaboration across institutions inside and outside of Algeria will be considered under the condition that not less than 50% of the work was conducted in Algeria.
- The first author needs to be affiliated with an Algerian university or a research centre.
- Each participant may submit only one paper for nomination. Submitting multiple nominations by the same author(s) will result in disqualification. In cases where multiple authors from the same laboratory wish to submit, they must collectively select and nominate a single paper from their lab
- Papers in one of the following languages are accepted:
- Arabic
- English
- French

Evaluation Criteria:
The evaluation process comprises two steps:
First, the Review Panel will ensure that submitted paper meets the eligibility criteria for the award.
Second, the Review Panel will examine all submissions in order to select the top papers which in the opinion of the shortlisting panel, constitute the most promising candidates for the awards.
The shortlisted papers will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
1) Novelty of the work,
2) Quality of the experiments, statistics and/or other analyses,
3) Significance of the findings,
4) Presentation of the work in terms of structure and language standards,
5) Potential impact of the scientific contribution.
